WiFi Bandwidth Management

Bandwidth usage and number of connected users in the TekiEazi WiFi portal

Why bandwidth needs managing

Guests expect WiFi that performs like their home or office network, and they expect it for free. Depending on where you are, your internet bandwidth can be expensive, so you need to manage it properly, or charge for premium access. When there is not enough bandwidth for the whole property, guests have a bad WiFi experience. Proper bandwidth shaping can partly solve this.

Set limits for every WiFi package

Each voucher package in the custom internet plans can be configured with:

  • a bandwidth speed limit,
  • a data quota limit,
  • a time duration limit,
  • an expiration date, and
  • a limit on the number of devices.

That lets you offer a free, slower tier and sell faster or longer access, and keep every package within what your connection can carry.

Free tier and premium tier

Airports show how this works in practice. Passengers in the Departures area can get free WiFi at a lower speed in exchange for watching a video ad, and optionally buy faster WiFi by card or through shops at the airport. TekiEazi hotspot management for airports includes bandwidth shaping, wireless access control and user activity logs. See airport WiFi management.

Limit devices per guest

Hotels with limited bandwidth can limit how many devices a guest may have on the WiFi at the same time. With the hotel PMS integration, guests log in with their room number and last name, and a guest portal lets them manage which of their devices are logged in.

See where the bandwidth goes

The WiFi dashboard shows real-time bandwidth usage, the number of connected users and access point and router status. Historical bandwidth usage and connected users can be displayed by day, week, month and year, and the sales reports track the bandwidth of each voucher. More in monitoring and analytics.

Coverage and capacity still matter

Bandwidth management works best on a network with enough access points. Too few access points leave gaps in coverage and too little capacity for video streaming. TekiEazi designs for high device density, as in airports and busy venues. Contact us about your location.
